Some highlights from Netty Yuwanda's lecture on “THE CONCEPT OF THE HUMAN “I” ACCORDING TO SAID NURSI AS A RESPONSE TO NARCISSISM” at the 12th International Bediuzzaman Symposium, from the Faculty of Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy, Darussalaam Gontor University, Indonesia

• Atheistic ideology and material culture based on self-love, misunderstanding of self-concept, and the absence of spiritual values could ​​lead to inappropriate attitudes, even kufr. Therefore, a discussion of the concept of The Human “I” is needed.
• When the concept of The Human “I” is observed through the harfi paradigm which is tauhidi, it would encourage people to have a complete understanding toward the self-existence and God. Thus humans could act fairly by putting themselves in their proper place as servants (‘Abd), and acknowledging their God (ma'rifatulah) as the Creator of the universe.
• Apprehending that human ownership is only an assumptive Rububiyyah of the true Rububiyyah of Allah and human nature is only a partial reflection of the attributes of Allah. Here the role of human faith is necessary thereof.
• On the other hand, if the understanding of the concept of The Human “I” is seen through an ismi paradigm which nullifies faith values, it would lead to a misunderstanding and zero acknowledgement of the existence of self and God, thus engender the narcissism.
