An Important Visit to Cairo by the IIKV Delegation

20.01.2026

A delegation from the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture (İİKV) paid an important visit in Cairo, meeting with Prof. Dr. Abdülhamid Abdülmunim Medkür, Secretary-General of one of the world’s most established and distinguished research centres in the field of Arabic language and literature, located along the banks of the Nile River.

During the meeting, discussions were held on Islamic thought, the challenges of the modern era, and the intellectual legacy of Bediüzzaman Said Nursî. Prof. Dr. Medkür emphasised that the method of positive action (müsbet hareket) adopted by Bediüzzaman Said Nursî in response to the social and intellectual ruptures experienced during the Republican period following the Ottoman Empire represents a Prophetic methodology.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Medkür stated:

“In the Risale-i Nur collection authored by Said Nursî, he made discoveries that no one before him had made or was able to make. He offered highly original and unparalleled insights for understanding the Qur’an in this age and applying it to life.”

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Abdülhamid Abdülmunim Medkür also expressed his desire to participate in the 13th Bediüzzaman Symposium, planned to be held in Istanbul on 4–6 October 2026.

The İİKV delegation noted that this meaningful encounter is expected to contribute to the strengthening of international academic cooperation and to the more in-depth engagement with the ideas of Bediüzzaman Said Nursî across different regions.
