A cooperation agreement was signed between Üsküdar University and the Association of Afro-Asian Universities, of which IIKV is a founding member. IAAU Secretary General Prof Eşref Durfili and former Minister of National Education of Yemen Prof Abdülmecit Mihalfi attended. It is talked about the human dimension and values in education.
The Rector of Üsküdar University, Prof Nevzat Tarhan said: “There is spiritual poverty right now.”
He continued to mention that materialism impoverished society spiritually. “There is not only economic poverty but also spiritual poverty today. The biggest effect of materialism is that it impoverishes us spiritually. We need to be morally empowered. The West is starting to realize this now. There is even a Marxist philosopher named Slavoj Žižek saying that the new refuge of the capitalist is Anatolian wisdom. Anatolian wisdom should be taught as a lesson. To show the viability of Islam, which all humanity needs right now. It is the time for representation, not only communiqué. Thanks for coming. I would like to say that big things start with small steps. Hopefully, this will be so. As my teacher said: “Humanity needs such a project, not us.” he said.
Peyman Jafari: “We have students from 95 different countries”
Head of the International Relations Department of Üsküdar University, Peyman Jafari mentioned that agreements were made to strengthen relations with countries. Jafari; “We have students from 95 different countries at our university. About 78 of these are from Asia and Africa. We are making protocols and agreements to strengthen our relations with every country.” said.
Prof Eşref Abdulrafi Durfili: “Our reason for starting the journey is to serve humanity.”
Secretary General of the Association of Afro-Asian Universities, Prof Eşref Abdulrafi Durfili gave information about the Association of Afro-Asian Universities. “It was established in 2016. Its establishment included 29 universities and NGOs from Asia and Africa. One of them was the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture. It currently has 180 universities. The Association of Afro-Asian Universities is far from politics and provides useful services to society and the universities within it. Our reason for setting out is to serve humanity.” he said.
The committee specifically mentioned that they have two expectations from the universities in Turkey as the association. He stated that their first expectation is to expect universities to introduce themselves in Asia and Europe. It was specially mentioned that many universities in Africa and Asia want to benefit from the experience of other universities.
The protocol ceremony was attended by Prof Abdülmecid Mihlafi, Yemen's former Minister of National Education and The Association of Afro-Asian Universities member, Said Yüce, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture, Ali Hanife, member of The Association of Afro-Asian Universities and the Head of the Arabic Department of the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture, Prof İlham Miraç, member of The Association of Afro-Asian Universities, and Head of the Russian department of the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture, Selçuk Uysaler, member of The Association of Afro-Asian Universities, and Üsküdar University Secretary and Head Tahsin Aksu, from Üsküdar University Corporate Communications Department, Ayşe Nur Akçelik, Media Relations Specialist, Gizem Köksal, Üsküdar University International Promotion and Marketing Manager, Furkan Karakullukçu, Üsküdar University International Relations Specialist participated.
The ceremony, in which the cooperation protocol was signed, ended after a group photo shoot.
